May 31, 2010—To put it simply, Chad Lewis’ book, Surround Yourself with Greatness is a great book worth reading. I’m admittedly not much of a reader (I read the scriptures and newspaper regularly and not much else) but I decided to purchase the book hoping for an interesting read.

In his book, Lewis—a former BYU (NCAA) and Philadelphia Eagles (NFL) football star—shares personal experiences that helped shape his life. His gratitude toward family, friends, teammates and coaches is genuine, and reading about it reminded me of individuals who have touched my life.

As a football fan, I particularly enjoyed reading about his relationships with other players and coaches like Donovan McNabb, Andy Reid and Dick Vermeil to name just a few. It was refreshing to read about NFL personalities who are genuinely good people, who care about others—not the same negative stories we hear about constantly in the media.

Yet, Lewis’ experiences do not begin or end on the football field. I was amazed to read about the many unique situations that Lewis took advantage of, and learned from. Again, experiences that shaped his life.

Surround Yourself with Greatness is recommended to anyone looking for an uplifting and positive view on life. Reading it was a great reminder to me, that even though my life has its share of challenges and disappointments, there are always blessings and opportunities to be had.
